Two men dominate the computer world. When I say dominate, I am saying that no two other people in the world of computers development have had more of an effect on society than Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. Turn on any television , walk down any American street , read any newspaper, or just turn on any computer, and these two men are everywhere. These two men have opened up thousands or possibly millions of possibilities around the globe. Their creativity and innovation have led to great success. Steve Jobs father worked with lasers, and his mother was an accountant. At a young age, Steve Jobs was tenacious and sometimes unyielding when it came to getting what he wanted. Recognizing the importance of animation, Steve Jobs set out to buy Pixar animation studios, and in 1986 he acquired Pixar from filmmaker George Lucas for ten million dollars. He used his own money to purchase the company, and the total investment was 50 million dollars. This investment paid off when the release of Toy Story and A Bug’s Life. By 1999 Steve Jobs seventy three percent share of Pixar was worth an estimated 1.1 billion dollars. That is not bad for a college dropout and an original investment of fifty million dollars. In April 2005 Steve Jobs was named to the Times 100 a magazine that lists the world’s one hundred most influential people. In 2006 he sold Pixar to Disney for seven hundred billion dollars. Even though Steve Jobs was forced to resign from Apple in 1985, Steve Jobs went on to create the NeXT computer. Introduced in 1988 it boasted a number of innovations including quick processing speeds, excellent graphics and quality sound. Sales were flat due to its steep price and black and white screen and inability to network. In 1997 Apple was in trouble, losing about a third of its market share. The association between Apple computers and Steve Jobs was re-born and in 1997 he was named interim CEO. Steve Jobs accomplishments at personalizing technology have also become well known.
